Causes of COPD

Smoking

The primary cause of COPD is cigarette smoking. Long-term exposure to tobacco smoke irritates and damages the airways and air sacs in the lungs, leading to inflammation and narrowing of the airways

Environmental Factors

Exposure to air pollutants, such as smoke from burning fuel, chemicals, and dust, can also contribute to the development of COPD, especially in individuals with long-term exposure in the workplace or home environment

Genetic Factors

In rare cases, genetic factors such as alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency can predispose individuals to develop COPD, even in the absence of smoking or significant environmental exposure

Symptoms of COPD

01.

Shortness of Breath

02.

Persistent Cough

03.

Wheezing

04.

Fatigue

05.

Frequent Respiratory Infections

06.

Chest Tightness

It's important to note that COPD symptoms often develop gradually and worsen over time, particularly if the underlying causes, such as smoking or environmental exposure, are not addressed. Early diagnosis and management of COPD can help slow disease progression, relieve symptoms, and improve quality of life. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of COPD, it's essential to consult a healthcare professional for evaluation and appropriate treatment.
